Movietime: Steven G. Kaplan founder and President of Rainstorm Entertainment, Inc

Rainstorm Entertainment’s owner Steven Kaplan. Steven is a lawyer as well as producer with a myriad of experience. Our show tonight will be a great look into not only career evolvement but dive more into the questions our industry wants to know.

Steven G. Kaplan is the founder and President of Rainstorm Entertainment, Inc. (www.rainstormentertainment.com) (http://pro.imdb.com/name/nm0438378) a
privately financed feature film development, production, finance and sales company.
He is also the principal of Launchpad Releasing (www.launchpadreleasing.com), a
North American feature film distributor. Mr. Kaplan is also a founder and partner in
Rainstorm Music (www.rainstorm-music.com). Rainstorm is a 50% partner in the
American Media Fund, LLC.


As a film producer and financier, Mr. Kaplan produced the award winning
TERROR TRACT (2000) starring the late John Ritter and Bryan Cranston. He was the primary
producer of THE BIG EMPTY (2002) starring Jon Favreau, Rachael Leigh Cook, Daryl Hannah,
Kelsey Grammer, Joey Lauren Adams, Adam Beach and Sean Bean. Lionsgate released the film
theatrically and on DVD. Showtime Networks purchased cable rights. Mr. Kaplan also served as the
primary financier and producer for the critically acclaimed documentary F*CK (2005), released
theatrically by ThinkFilm as well as the award winning WWII documentary RED WHITE BLACK
& BLUE (2007) which appeared on PBS/ITVS in November, 2007 after premiering at the Locarno
Film Festival. Mr. Kaplan’s other producer credits include BIG BAD WOLF (Universal) and THE
LOST COLONY (SyFy/ Allumination). Mr. Kaplan is in post production on the feature documentary
STATE OF CONTROL (www.stateofcontroldoc.com), shot on location in Tibet, Nepal, China and
India.
He just produced the feature film BILLY BATES (which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival 2012
and feature documentary SUNSET STRIP (www.sunsetstripthemovie.com) which premiered at the
2012 SxSW Film Festival and was released by Showtime and NetFlix in April 2013. He is currently
writing, producing and financing the feature films, SEAL, WHITE DEATH and HEROVILLE.
Mr. Kaplan is currently in pre-production on Boris Damast’s ROAD TO CAPRI (starring Virginia
Madsen, Alfred Molina and Frankie Muniz), Alfredo de Villa’s THE LOWLANDS, and MAGNET,
a high concept Sci Fi thriller. He is currently in production on the documentary based on the best
selling autobiography by Guns N’ Rose’s lead bassist Duff McKagan, ITS SO EASY AND OTHER
LIES (XLrator) and Daniel Zirilli’s BLACK BEAUTY (LionsGate). Rainstorm is currently in post
production on Michael Oblowitz’s SUNNY, a stirring documentary on the great surfer Sunny Garcia.
Mr. Kaplan is attached to produce the biopic on baseball great Hank Aaron (THE HAMMER) and a
basketball redemption picture, LATE IN THE SEASON.


Steve graduated from U.C.L.A. in 1985 with a B.A. in Political Science, attended Oxford University
where he studied economic structures and literature and earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School in
1988. He is an adventurer, scuba diver, collector of American Pop Art and world traveler.

Tonight we have a wonderful Lawyer and Producer Mr. Marc Jacobson.

Marc Jacobson grew up in a household surrounded by entertainment industry professionals. In law school, he determined early on that entertainment law could be a fertile ground for his future. As Founding Chairman of the New York State Bar Association Section on Entertainment, Arts & Sports Law, Marc developed a broad business and legal background and built his unique practice by focusing on two passions: film and music.

Today, while still handling sophisticated music publishing and recording transactions, Marc also handles all legal aspects of filmed entertainment for films like “Conviction” (2010) with Hilary Swank and Sam Rockwell, “Texasville” (1990) with Jeff Bridges and Cybil Shepard and “All’s Fair” (1989) with George Segal and Sally Kellerman. He is currently Production Counsel to the forthcoming “Back In The Day,” “Inversion,” “Alex and Emmy,” “The Enigma of Benito Cereno” and is Executive Producer and Production Counsel for “Leaves of the Tree” and “Confidence Game.” As an Executive Producer he helped create films like “Junction” (2013), and “The Last Film Festival,” Dennis Hopper’s last live action movie.
